IPC/WHMA-A-620

Course Description

The IPC/WHMA-A-620 Endorsement is included in the following IPC Certification Programs: Certified IPC Trainer (CIT/MIT), and Certified Standards Expert (CSE/SCSE), Certified IPC Specialist (CIS).

The Training and Certification Program is a modular course. It focuses on manufacturing requirements and accountability for quality. It is the first industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation. This course is for anyone responsible for the quality and reliability of cable and wire harness assemblies including trainers, engineers, quality supervisors, inspectors, and manufacturing personnel responsible for quality assurance.

This is a comprehensive knowledge and skills-based training course. The program consists of 8 modules, each covering a different technology or area of soldered electronic assemblies. Module 1 is the mandatory module for the CIS training. All other modules are optional; therefore, CIS training can be customized. All modules are mandatory for CIT and CSE training. There is an optional hands-on workmanship for this course.

  • Module 1 – General, Applicable Docs, Preparation, Measuring, Testing (MANDATORY FOR CIS) (Covers fundamentals, wire & cable prep, nominal & tolerance measuring, electrical & mechanical testing)

  • Module 2 – Crimp Terminations & IDC’s (Covers stamped & formed open and closed barrel terminals and insulation displacement connections)

  • Module 3 – Soldering & High Voltage Soldering (Covers basic soldering principals and high voltage soldering applications)

  • Module 4 – Connectorization & Over Molding / Potting (Covers cable connectors alignment and securing and high and low-pressure connector molding and potting)

  • Module 5 – Ultrasonic Welding & Splices (Covers splicing accomplished by ultrasonics, soldering, and crimping)

  • Module 6 – Marking, Securing & Final Assembly (Covers position, application, and content of marking, wire bundle securing, installation for final assembly)

  • Module 7 – Coaxial & Biaxial (Covers stripping, terminating, and jumper wires involved common axis cable signal carrying)

  • Module 8 – Shielding & Protective Coverings (Covers signal shielding and abrasion resistance of cable harnesses)

  • Optional hands-on workmanship

OPTIONAL HANDS-ON

The optional hands-on training is also available. In this 1-day additional course students will build a cable assembly to demonstrate their practical ability to measure, cut, and strip wires. Attach terminals to wires (crimped and soldered). Assemble coaxial, ethernet, and ribbon cables as well as bundle securing (tie wraps, lacing, etc.). Full kit, assembly drawing, and instructions provided.
