Course Description
The J-STD-001 Endorsement is included in the following IPC Certification Programs: Certified IPC Trainer (CIT/MIT), and Certified Standards Expert (CSE/SCSE), Certified IPC Specialist (CIS).
This course presents the methods and acceptance criteria for producing basic soldered electronic circuit boards. Students will be trained by lectures and hands-on workmanship to obtain certification. Experienced solder technicians and operators need to show they understand the correct way to achieve quality soldered connections.
This course assumes that the students know some basic concepts and materials associated with hand soldering. If not, additional training could help the student before attending this course. We suggest our basic “Verion Soldering For Operators” course.
The J-STD-001 is a comprehensive knowledge and skills-based training course. The program consists of 6 modules, each covering a different technology or area of soldered electronic assemblies. Module 1 is the mandatory module for the CIS training. All other modules are optional; therefore, CIS training can be customized and testing is per module. All modules are mandatory for CIT and CSE training. Two tiers (CIT, CIS) are required to complete the hands-on workmanship to obtain certification. It is optional for the CSE certification.
Module 1 - Introduction of the Standard (MANDATORY FOR CIS) - (Covers overall introduction and fundamentals)
Module 2 – Wires & Terminals - (Covers terminals where wire placement, soldering, and inspection are applicable)
Module 3 – Printed circuit Boards & Adhesives - (Covers PCB conditions, conformal coating, encapsulation, and staking)
Module 4 – Through Hole Technology - (Covers installation, soldering, and inspection of through-hole applications)
Module 5 – Surface Mount Technology - (Covers SMT terminations, installation, soldering, and inspection)
Module 6 – Inspection - (Covers all the inspection methodology covered in modules 2, 4, and 5)

J-STD-001 SPACE ADDENDUM
Additionally, we offer the J-STD-001 Space/Military Addendum which supplements or replaces specifically identified requirements of the base document for soldered electrical and electronic assemblies that must survive the vibration and thermal cyclic environments of getting to and operating in space and military applications. A CIT candidate must be certified to J-STD-001 as a prerequisite before attaining certification. A CIS candidate must have passed Module 1 and at least one other Module before attaining certification. There is no workmanship associated with this 1-day course. The Space Addendum certification must be obtained within 90 days of certifying to the J-STD-001.
CERTIFICATION TIERS

(CIT) CERTIFIED IPC TRAINER
CIT’s may be employees of companies that train only within their parent company. CITs are authorized to deliver and administer CIS examinations to individuals who wish to gain certification. The Master IPC Trainer (MIT) is an optional designation for a Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) employed at an official training center.

(CIS) CERTIFIED IPC SPECIALIST
CIS training and certification is appropriate for any individual that will benefit by having a consistent understanding of the criteria in a standard. Line operators, engineers, quality engineers will find this training and certification beneficial for their knowledge in the electronics industry.

J-STD-001 Manual (Class Copy w/Option to Purchase), Hands-On Solder Kit, Downloadable Certificate (Valid for 2yrs). NOTE - A 70% passing grade is required on all Open Book exams.

(CSE) CERTIFIED STANDARDS EXPERT
The CSE is a subject matter professional with a high level of knowledge and understanding of a specific or group of IPC standards. The role of the Certified Standards Expert may vary by organization. Please note, Hands-On workmanship is optional for this tier.
